I Believe in Fairytales

Once vital,

once there—blood,

red and pulsing, but

as I finger your graying flesh, warmth is gone.

How can cold creep so quickly through these veins and arteries—and

where did you go in that whispered breath, to leave this shell of cells behind?

So vacant.

To be absent is to be present,

the soft goodbye and the grand hello, but

it kind of sounds like a fairytale where all your dreams come true,

and the happily ever after begins as the music swells and the credits run.

But if we the broken can devise such endings of hope for our human plots,

could not God also?  If God is,

and if love is His spirit-blood, then

it is not unreasonable,

it is not irrational that fairytales might be hints of what is truly true, and

that dreams really do come true.

II Corinthians 5:14

J.B. Phillips New Testament

“We know, for instance, that if our earthly dwelling were taken down, like a tent, we have a permanent house in Heaven, made, not by man, but by God. In this present frame we sigh with deep longing for the heavenly house, for we do not want to face utter nakedness when death destroys our present dwelling—these bodies of ours. So long as we are clothed in this temporary dwelling we have a painful longing, not because we want just to get rid of these “clothes” but because we want to know the full cover of the permanent house that will be ours. We want our transitory life to be absorbed into the life that is eternal.”
