The little boy said to his Grandma, “When are you going to turn into a frog?” Grandma said, “A frog? I don’t know, why do you ask?” The boy said, “Because I heard Daddy say last night that we get $50,000 when you croak.”
This humorous example isn’t so funny in real life. Some parents prejudice their kids against their grandparents without even realizing it. Even if you’re not on the best of terms with your in-laws, be very careful about what you say. Your children may be able to benefit greatly from a doting grandmother and grandfather. If you have issues with the way your in-laws handle your kids, talk to your spouse first, then converse with them in a gentle but direct manner.
Do all you can to give your children a great experience with their ancestors. They won’t be around forever.
