The date of terror destruction has been engraved in the hearts of many. At the time one of my daughters lived in New York and continues to do so and my youngest son was in the military who has since retired as a veteran and who served in the wars that followed. It was a time when I truly lost contact with my children and until I heard their voices and knew of their safety I could not take a deep breath. This reaction is from a simple woman among many. I wept for the loss and for what was going to be. What was it like for the Creator of all of us? I wrote the reflection below on that day of 9/11…
And God Wept
The sun rises in the eastern skyline as it always does each day.
It shines upon the cities as
people drink their first cups of coffee
travel to work
enter buildings
say their hellos after their morning good-byes
plan the day’s work…. as they have done each day.
This morning as God watches over His children He weeps.
The sun becomes lost behind clouds of smoke, flames and debris,
reflective of darker days.
The city disappears as
people vanish from the sight of
drinking their first cups of coffee
traveling to work
entering buildings
saying hellos after their morning good-byes
planning the day’s work….for they will never exist anymore.
This morning as God hears the screams of His children, He weeps.
How many mornings has God heard the screams of His children? How many mornings does God have tears in His eyes? How many mornings will the sun witness humankind – inhumanness?
How many mornings do we have left until life is forever silenced… And God forever weeps.
