Passing Thoughts Passing Through

I’m at an age where many pass from my life. From friends and loved ones to public and familiar faces who’ve been a part of the broad narrative of this life. Some have already become defunctioned and some are currently in transition. Some pass easily and some struggle with the transformation, not comfortably or effortlessly or efficiently giving up this part of our evolution. I take solace in the fact that they all touched my life, briefly or for decades, and in ways beyond my best description have made it more worth living.

These fellow humans with whom I’ve shared time on this planet made me weep with laughter, made me open my heart, made me unlock my brain, made me expand my horizons, made me question things, made me less about me, made me happy, made me angry, made me frustrated, made me think, made me become better at whatever it was that I was trying to do or to be. Not always selflessly, we’ve acted in concert—even the odd celebrity and I—to share an adventure or a project or a family or a meal.

August is a cruel month. It kills off those not hearty enough to survive into winter (and that polar season has its own opposite in March). This August, as in so many others, we’ve all lost people we care about, whom we’ll remember and therefore keep alive (just in a different state of being), and who continue to help make this a journey worth taking—one that would otherwise be something completely different.
