Niven, Jennifer. All the Bright Places. Alfred A. Knopf, 2015. $17.99 ISBN9780385755887 388pgs. Grades High school, P7Q8

This is a beautiful story about a boy named Finch, who is fascinated by death, and a girl named Violet. Violet wants to escape from her grief when her sister dies. Through Finch, Violet is able to live again, take risks, and think about a future. Finch does commit suicide in the end. The great thing about this book is that it touches on bipolar disorder (which Finch has) and the Author’s Note also gives web addresses to read further on Suicide Prevention and other helpful websites.   This would be a great book for the high school library. November 2014 review by Jo Train.
