We missed the 6 feet of snow by 6 miles (btw, did anyone get the title’s reference to ‘Get Smart’?). Lake effect snow has very sharp boundaries, and my neighborhood located in the center of the city got less than a foot, while South Buffalo, just 6 miles down the road, received 6 feet.
This allowed me to attend Tom’s wake, and see and reflect with fellow running friends.
Got home, and while it was still snowing and the windchill stood in the teens, went out to Delaware Park, where I run and write about often, and where I used to run into Tom all the time as it was one his favorite running spots, and did a set of intervals on the 2 mile loop in the park, 3 minutes fast/2 minutes jog for 3 minutes. It was refreshing and just what I needed.
It was also the last hard workout – and glad to get it in during this storm – before this weekend’s xc race and next Thursday’s Turkey Trot, which of course Tom directed and which the organizers appropriately will dedicate to him.
