I was with my mother most of the day today. She is on the verge of going to be with Jesus. (In The Salvation Army it is called being “promoted to glory.”) She couldn’t speak today, but would open her eyes and look at me and nod. I kept telling her that my father was going to be alright and that she didn’t need to worry about him.
My wife asked if I would go get a Diet Coke from a machine so we could split it. I bought a Coke and brought it back to their room. As my wife was drinking from the can, I noticed that it read: “Dad.”
We seldom drink Cokes. The last one I had was 2 weeks ago. I received a call that my mother needed hospice care. When I hung up the phone I immediately reached into a box of Diet Cokes and pulled out the first one. As I brought it to my mouth, I noticed that it read “Mom.”
The odds against these two events happening at the moments they did seem impossible to me. I believe that it is the living God, personally encouraging my broken, grieving heart.
